Overview

The Ultimate Hideaway is situated in picturesque Kaingaroa, a small fishing village on the north-eastern tip of the remote Chatham Islands, 800 km east of New Zealand.

Whether you are looking for adventure, or complete relaxation away from the rest of the world, your holiday with us can be as action-packed, or as restful, as you choose.

While away your day on a fishing boat, catch a fish off the shore, go pig hunting with one of the locals, visit Point Munning seal colony or the site of the Sunderland Restoration Project, walk one of our golden beaches or beautiful bush tracks, or visit some of the island's many historical sites.

If you are looking for a unique way to spend your holiday, then the Ultimate Hideaway is the place for you!

Fishing and Diving

Arrangements can be made to take groups fishing on the FV Harvest. (As seen on the ITM Fishing Show.) Minimum numbers apply.

Arrangements can also be made for you to go diving off the shore or on a boat.

Pig Hunting

There are a number of expert locals ready to take you on a half or whole day pighunt which will be sure to be one of the highlights of your holiday! Please enquire about prices.

Please Note: A reasonable level of fitness is required.

Kaingaroa Sports and Social Club

A five minute walk will see you enjoying the view and the local conversation at the "club". Please enquire about the Saturday night seafood extravaganza – a superb smorgasbord of local seafood that is unbeaten anywhere else. Bookings are essential.

Please note: Seafood nights only occur in the summer season.

Local Wildlife

The Chatham Islands have some beautiful bush walks and unique species of wildlife. Chatham Island Albatross, Chatham Island Penguin, Chatham Island Shag, Chatham Island Mollymawks to name a few.

For those visitors interested in birdwatching or discovering the local conservation efforts on the island a visit to the Chatham Islands Department of Conservation at Te One is recommended.

Accommodation

This large 2-storied facility has 2 comfortable lounge areas, a large modern kitchen with dishwasher, 2 bathrooms, laundry facilities and your choice of single, twin or double rooms.

We are set up for self-catering, so you can choose when you eat!! 

We also own a grocery shop in the main centre of Waitangi and are able to arrange for supplies to be left in your rental vehicle or at the Hideaway for your arrival.
